Networks of today are incredibly complicated. The IT manager

needs to manage several types of users within the company

including senior managers, finance, mobile workers and

general users which all have the need for different access

rights to the company’s databases and network resources.

To simplify authentication and administration it is important

that the company has a solution which offers a seamless

the WLAN infrastructure of Ethernet wired network. The

employee or guest to the network need to be isolated and

securely connected to the target resource.

of Different User Access Rights

to the WLAN Network?

Within the ZyXEL NXC5200 Controller, it is possible to

configure the individual or departmental users group access

privilege in advance. These profiles can be setup differently

per user or group and the parameters link to the WLAN SSIDs

(Service Set Identifiers) defined in the AP’s. Key in deploying

the different profiles is how the data is handled, within the

NXC5200 each profile can be defined as to whether the data

is pushed directly to the switch network without additional

security. If the user profile such as guests on the network

require additional security or application level inspection

then the traffic flow can be defined to be checked within the

controller itself prior to forwarding. The NXC5200 has an in-

built mechanism to support both distributed and tunnelled

data forwarding per SSID.
